Robby's Lobby #166

BlogApril, 2021INROCK Magazine

Hey hey In Rockers and welcome to The Lobby coming to you from a frozen solid Buffalo, NY, one year into the one of the strangest times we’ll see in our collective lives. But some interesting things happen and are allowed to happen during these strange times and I’m glad to be able to share these moments with you all as we make it through these different and sometimes difficult times together.

Every spring for the last 4 years my family and our Music is Art organization are involved in The annual Buffalo Cherry Blossom Festival at the Buffalo Historical Society’s Japanese Gardens. due to COVID and NYS regulations the event will be held virtually for the second year in a row. They will still encourage people to visit the gardens, but with no music, displays or vendors on the grounds, instead they will once again present music and cultural experiences online for people to enjoy as they visit the gardens in a socially distanced, safe manner throughout the season. You can check out some of what we’re going to be doing this year at buffalocherryblossomfestival.org. Always trying to help bring a little Japanese culture and influence to our homertown and we’re happy to see the Garden continue the tradition of the festival in this virtual forum one more time.

Next months installment of the column will be coming to you from the middle of the woods in NYS as we begin working on new GGDS material, more on that later .... but due to our upcoming exile I’m rushing to get numerous projects already in progress at my Buffalo studio completed before I leave to record. Most of this month has been spent getting my demos together to play for the band that I’ve been collecting since March 2020 when the COVID epidemic put us all in our homes for a while. I’m excited to play these new songs for the guys and get to work on some new material with the band, it’s been a long time.

I’ve also been doing a lot of work with my EDM Artists/producer friend Grabbitz (Deadmau5, 3LAU) and Season 19 Voice finalist singer Cami Clune at my studio here in Buffalo. We’ve been doing lots of recording for all sorts of different applications over the past month, but most importantly we’ve just been making music and I really have to say it’s great to be doing that again.

The Buffalo Hip Hop scene has really been exploding in the past year with artists such as West Side Gunn, Conway The Machine and Benny The Butcher leading the charge with The Griselda Records promotion machine behind them. Our GCR Audio studios have become their go to studio in Buffalo and with praise coming their way from artists such as Jay Z, Eminem and Bustah Rhymes it’s been awesome watching this crew of rappers making a serious mark on the international Hip Hop landscape.

As I mentioned earlier I’ll be coming to you from a little studio (well not so little actually) in the middle of the woods next month as GGDS begin work on our next release. I can’t wait to bring you along on the journey and keep you with me through the process. So let’s do it!

Talk soon and I hope you have a great month!

Peace,

Robby
