Frankie Cocozza gives 'Iris' a huge boost

13 years after it failed to dent the top 40 in the UK, Goo Goo Dolls' 'Iris' is battling it out for the number one spot this weekend!

Over the weekend the rock ballad was performed by X Factor singers Joe Cox and girls' favourite Frankie Cocozza prompting a huge sales surge.

Thanks to The X Factor boost, 'Iris' is currently sitting at number one on both the iTunes and Official Midweek Chart outselling its nearest rivals Sak Noel, One Direction and Dappy.

Despite being an immediate hit in the US, Australia and New Zealand, when it was initially released in 1998 'Iris' reached a lowly number 50 on these shores. It later climbed to number 26 upon its re-release in 1999.

'Iris' has been covered by a number of artists over the years including Avril Lavigne, Ronan Keating and The Wanted.
